The Banishree scholarship program was launched on 1st April 2008, by the Social Security and Empowerment of Personals with Disabilities Department, Government of Odisha. The program provides financial assistance to students with disabilities, encouraging them to pursue their education and obtain vocational, professional, and technical training.

The scholarship offers monthly financial support ranging from ₹200 to ₹900 depending on the level of education. Additionally, students with 75% or more disability receive an extra allowance of ₹200 per month.

Banishree Scholarship for all education level for disabled students of India

Students with disabilities who do not belong to the state of Odisha will receive scholarship assistance based on their level of education, as detailed below:

This Reader’s allowance is for visually impaired students who have not received it from Govt. of India. The head of the institution will certify that a reader has been employed for the course of study.

Additional Allowance

Students with 75% or more disabilities (Orthopedically handicapped) who require special transport arrangements are eligible for an additional allowance of INR 200/month, provided they are not covered under the integrated education program.

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria are required to avail of banishree/scholarship for disabled students:

  • Students with disabilities
  • Must be a bonafide student from Odisha or other parts of state
  • Regular students from Standard 1 to 10, college or universities
  • Have not received a scholarship or any financial assistance/ stipend from the Government of India/State/Central Government.
  • Studying in special schools and not covered grant-in-aid from central/state government
  • Enrolled in distance learning through government institutes/recognized universities/colleges/institutions
  • Admitted to vocational/professional/technical training from recognized institutions.
  • The family income must be less than INR 60,000/annum

Receive Scholarship

Regular students with disabilities enrolled in a recognized institution will receive a scholarship, regardless of whether they pass or fail in a particular year.

Required Documents

The following documents are required along with the scholarship application form:

  • Passport size photograph
  • ID card/Domicile certificate
  • Disability Certificate issued by competent authority
  • Family income certificate from relevant authority
  • Attested photocopies of previous mark sheets

Income Certificate exemption

Students who belong to BPL families do not require an income certificate.

Application Form Process

Steps to fill out the Banishree scholarship application form online:

  1. Visit the official website
    Go to the Social Security and Empowerment of Personals with Disabilities Department website www.ssepd.odisha.gov.in
  2. Access the Scholarship Application:
    Click on the “Banishree scholarship Application” link and select the “New application”
  3. Navigate to the Application Form:
    You will be directed to the Banishree scholarship application form
  4. Verify your Aadhar card:
    • In the “Student Details” section, verify your Aadhar card
    • Select the academic year and provide your name, Aadhar number, date of birth and age
  5. Fill in the required details:
    • Personal Information:
      • UDID Certificate Number
      • Applicant’s address
      • Gender
      • Nature of disability (OH/HH/VH/MR/CP/General)
      • Date of birth and age
      • Guardian’s name, relationship, and address
      • Police station jurisdiction
      • Citizenship status
      • Aadhar Number
      • District, sub-division, and full address
  6. Disability details:
    • If visually challenged, provide relevant details
    • If orthopedically handicapped with 75% or more disability, include details
  7. Educational information:
    • Current course of study
    • Name and address of the school/institution
    • School ID and card details
  8. Contact and Bank details:
    • Mobile Number
    • Email ID
    • Bank account details
  9. Submit the Form:
    Ensure all details are accurate, then submit the completed application form. Take a printout of the application form and submit it to the head of the school/institution for verification and further processing.

Offline Form Submission

If any student wishes to submit the scholarship application form manually, they must follow these steps:

  1. The Banishree Scholarship form can be collected from the office of the Sub-Collector, BDO (Block Development Officer), or the Head of the school/college/institution.
  2. After filling out the form, including the mobile number and email id. The students must attach the required documents listed above.
  3. The form should be verified by the Head of the school/college/institution.
  4. The completed form can be submitted to the office from which it was collected.

Sanctioning of Scholarship

The submitted scholarship applications will be verified by the head of the institution and forwarded to the sanctioning authority i.e. BDO/Sub-Collector. After thorough verification, the scholarship amount will be sanctioned based on the provided details and disbursed directly to the student’s bank account.

Important Guidelines

Please read the following guidelines before processing your scholarship application:

  1. If a student changes their school/institution for any reason, the scholarship will continue.
  2. In case of any dispute, students are allowed to file a complaint with the Collector.
  3. The decision of the Collector, regarding the student’s complaint will be final and can’t be challenged.
  4. The Government of Odisha reserves the right to amend the program guidelines at any time without any prior notice.
  5. The income certificate requirement is waived for BPL families.
  6. No cash payment will be made for the scholarship. All scholarship amounts will be disbursed to the student’s bank account.
  7. The student cannot avail of similar type scholarship benefits from the state or central governments.

Scholarship Payment Mode

The scholarship amount is directly transferred to the applicant’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The student’s bank account should be active and linked with their Aadhar card for smooth processing.

Application Deadline

The deadline for scholarship form submission is extended to 31st December each year. Please note that the authorities may modify the deadlines, so it is advisable to visit the official website for the most current information.
